Define has been providing ongoing planning, masterplanning and landscape consultancy services since aspirations for developing the site to the West of Hinckley were first conceived.
A landscape-led approach
That began with the preparation of a masterplan to communicate the vision for a new community on the edge of this market town. That purposefully took a landscape-led approach; green corridors through the scheme shaping the distinct character that draws on the existing stream and hedgerows. In turn, this sensitively responds to on-site ecology, with naturalised green spaces accommodating drainage features and landscaping that enhances biodiversity, whilst forming an attractive setting for residents of the new neighbourhood.
A permeable network of corridors offers active movement links into Hinckley and the surrounding countryside, that are punctuated with focal spaces for socialising, sport and play. This reinforces the opportunities for ensuring the health and well-being of the residents.
Delivery and expansion
This work led to the successful negotiation of an outline planning application in 2018 for the delivery of 850 homes.
Since then, Define has continued to advise on the delivery of the approved development; managing key reserved matters and condition discharge applications.
In 2023, Define advised the client in relation to the expansion of the neighbourhood, incorporating additional land that is seamlessly integrated to the approved development. That has required a carefully considered planning strategy to ensure the delivery of a cohesive development that still continues to reflect the original vision and design principles. That led to a successful full planning application for an additional 153 homes that was approved in March 2024.
