Overview

Define were appointed by Dandara to provide Landscape Architecture services to design the key public and private spaces within the redevelopment of the former Chilterns Shopping Centre in High Wycombe. Alongside this role, we were also responsible for the design of Frogmoor, an important historic public space that is adjacent to the site and in much need of regeneration.
The proposals
The proposals are designed alongside the development of 2 new buildings along with the retention and refurbishment of existing buildings on Frogmoor, Queens Square and Church Street, to provide for 303 residential apartments and 6 commercial units.

The new proposals look to redevelop this area into a new thriving quarter for the town through a vibrant mixed use ground floor, new apartments and much needed improvements to the existing public realm.

    The outcome
The site spans across a complicated part of the town, where the level change are problematic. Given this, Define designed some of the key features that will enhance accessibility through this part of the urban realm, opening up routes through the town and improving connectivity.

The design utilised current best practice in urban drainage systems, using areas of permeable surfacing to catch rainwater run off whilst not impeding important service access and site wide functionality.

The project received full planning permission in February 2025.
